A three-day practical training session facilitated by PRADET Timor-Leste through its Socio-Economic Empowerment Program (SEEP) has inspired local women beneficiaries to rethink their approach to small-scale business development. The training, held at Fatin Hakmatek Oecusse, was a non-formal basic education to provide insights into entrepreneurial thinking and financial literacy, equipping 8 participants with knowledge before starting their business.
The training was delivered by facilitators from the Livestock Department, the Directorate of Agriculture, the Directorate of Commerce and Industry, and PRADET itself. The sessions covered topics such as small-scale animal husbandry, identifying business opportunities, and financial management.
Cipriano Agustinho Daos, an expert in livestock farming, guided participants through strategies for raising chickens, goats, pigs, and cattle at the household level. Reflecting on the impact of his sessions, he noted, “This is not my first time providing training for PRADET beneficiaries in Oecusse. Every year, I see ideas being continuously refined, and I feel gratified witnessing new clients adopt these strategies.”
On the second day, Domingas Sufa from the Directorate of Commerce and Industry led a session on identifying viable small-scale business models, emphasizing sustainability. The program concluded with financial literacy training by Francisco Pui, President of the União Cooperativa Oecusse, who introduced participants to budgeting, profit calculations, and saving strategies for household and community-based businesses.
